Shielded Pools: A Safe Zone for Amphibians

In Situ, Kansas City Art Institute, Kansas City MO. 1998. Glass, steel, rock, vegetation. 26" x 16' x 12',

Three small pools were created in a campus lawn to create habitat for amphibians, which are disappearing worldwide because of their sensitivity to increased UV light caused by a thinning ozone layer. Arcing panels of glass block the UV rays.

Before Installation area was just a wet area at the base of a drainage culvert.
